Ricky Layal is a Trainee Solicitor in the Criminal Law Department at Tyler Hoffman Solicitors, based at the firm’s Leeds office. Approaching qualification, Ricky has developed significant experience assisting with some of the most serious and complex criminal cases handled by the firm.
Ricky works closely with the firm’s senior solicitors and Higher Court Advocates on a wide range of high-profile and complex matters proceeding through the Crown Court. He has been involved in cases involving allegations of murder, terrorism, organised criminal activity, large-scale drug conspiracies, and modern slavery offences. These cases often involve extensive evidence and complex legal issues, requiring meticulous preparation and a strategic approach to defence.
A key part of Ricky’s role involves the detailed analysis of prosecution evidence, including witness statements, forensic evidence, digital communications, and large volumes of disclosure material. His responsibilities include preparing case summaries, assisting with defence case statements, organising trial materials, and liaising with counsel, experts, and third parties to ensure that all aspects of the defence are carefully coordinated.
In addition to his Crown Court work, Ricky is an accredited Police Station Representative, in this capacity, he represents clients at police stations across the United Kingdom, providing immediate legal advice during police interviews and at the earliest stage of criminal investigations. His work at the police station ensures that clients receive clear, decisive legal advice and that their rights are fully protected during the investigative process.
Ricky is regularly instructed to attend police stations in matters involving serious allegations where early strategic advice is essential. He advises clients on interview strategy, reviews disclosure provided by investigating officers, and ensures that clients understand the legal implications of decisions made during questioning.
Known for his disciplined approach to case preparation and his ability to manage complex evidential material, Ricky plays an important role within the firm’s Crown Court team. His attention to detail, strong work ethic, and commitment to robust defence preparation make him a valued member of the department.
As he approaches qualification as a Solicitor, Ricky continues to build extensive experience in serious criminal litigation while contributing to the firm’s reputation for providing strategic and high-quality defence representation in complex and high-profile cases.
